I use non-standard date formats (especially ISO 8601, for example.) I like those formats better than traditional American date and time notation. Here I describe the formats I use and why I use them.
TIL there is an international standard for writing the date called ISO 8601, that uses the format YYYY-MM-DD. Although it has been around since 1988, very few countries actually use it. Many databases use it. It's very useful too - in string form its alphabetic order is the same as its date order.
