Currently I have the RS3 Client downloaded and I'm wanting to play Darkscape but currently it seems I have to go to the DarkScape website and launch the game from there, is this the only way?

Darkscape was RS3's attempt at OSRS's dead man mode. It had global PvP with some cities/banks offering as safe space, but unlike DMM you didn't lose bank items or xp when you died. On top of that, they re-arranged some of the world map, changing some resource locations and what not.
