The median nerve innervates the cutaneous volar aspect of the first three and a half digits. The ulnar nerve entirely innervates the dorsal and volar ulnar half of the fourth and fifth digits.
The 3 nerves involved in dorsal hand sensory innervation are the superficial branch of the radial nerve (SBRN), the dorsal branch of the ulnar nerve (DBUN), and the lateral antebrachial cutaneous nerve (LABCN). Few studies have examined the detailed anatomy of the SBRN in the past several decades.
