I use an ossc myself for original hardware to my vga monitor. Line doubled with full scanlines looks great and I use a Tendak HDMI to vga converter to connect it. I want to try running my PC to it through the HDMI to vga converter though I have no idea what to expect using a gtx1080.
To see scanlines in a computer monitor, you can use shaders in an emulator. If you want to use a real console, you can you a line doubler device with a scanlines generator. Reply reply
I learned recently that the SMPTE method of calibrating contrast on a CRT involves a test pattern where you adjust contrast so that the scanlines in the white areas are as white as possible without blooming.

It's a vast subject, and there is a lot of info scattered around the web, so I think having it all in one place could be useful.
