Critical reading is engaging in analytic activity which involves the reader by asking questions about the text and the author’s claim. Critical readers are doing the process of evaluating, analyzing, and interpreting the assertion of the hidden meaning of the whole text.
Definition and Importance. Critical reading involves evaluating how a text presents arguments and draws conclusions. It requires high reflective skills and the ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate texts. This reading approach distinguishes between explicit information and implicit ideas.
Reading is a cognitive process of decoding symbols to derive meaning from a text. In critical reading, the reader must not determine the central claims or purpose of the text. Examining the evidence such as supporting facts, examples, etc. in the text is essential in critical reading.
