Only 2 of the sockets out of the hundreds in the kit have the grooves. The rest are either normal 6 point or 1`2 point sockets. They are Pittsburgh Pro sockets from the 225 piece mechanics toolset ( https://www.harborfreight.com/mechanics-tool-set-225-pc-62664.html ).
The main thing is that they’re all 6-point and no skip. The other budget socket sets from Pittsburgh or Quinn are all 12 pt which used to be important in the days of 32 tooth ratchets but nowadays will mostly only serve to increase the chance you round a fastener.
The 12 vs 6 issue has been an issue with many brands over the years, especially in sets. 6 point sockets are made for good nut/bolt heads while 12 point are made for quicker clasping and/or worn/mildly damaged fasteners.
