Public Bath Houses Initiative. At the height of the progressive hygiene movement, dozens of public bath houses were scattered throughout Pittsburgh's many neighborhoods. Today, only four remain (one of which is the last functioning bath house in Pennsylvania).
The bath house today remains the only continuously functioning bathhouse in Pittsburgh and in Pennsylvania. Address: 38 S 10th Street. Status: Listed on the City Register in 2017.
29 gru 2008 · The Schvitz has been in operation since 1927 – when it actually functioned as a proper bathhouse on Cleveland’s east side. Back then, 116th Street & Kinsman was a thriving neighborhood full of Hungarian immigrants. Today the area has changed but The Schvitz remains in its original location.
The Oliver Bath House (initially dubbed the South Side Bath House) was completed in 1915 and was a gift of steel magnate Henry W. Oliver to the city of Pittsburgh. Located in the historic Southside neighborhood, the Bath House was nominated as a city Historic Landmark in February 2017.
