“Fight Song”: The Story Behind the Song. Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song” has become an anthem for people struggling though a difficult time–it is played in hospital wards, for example, and in rehab centers. Although Platten is pleased that the song encourages others, she wrote it to encourage herself.
Monitor and provide content-based feedback if students require it. Listen and make notes of common errors. Elicit content feedback and promote group debate about how to define literature. If students struggle to form their own definition of literature, tell them to make one based on the words in the word cloud.

In my class, the follow-up discussion topic–“What are you fighting for?–was memorable. Choose from the following activities: Listening Listen to a recording of “Fight Song” without the lyrics. Students jot down five words in the song that they are sure they know.
