This chapter describes how to configure normal-range VLANs (VLAN IDs 1 to 1005) and extended-range VLANs (VLAN IDs 1006 to 4094) on th e Catalyst 3750-X or 3560-X switch. It includes information about VLAN membership modes, VLAN configuration modes, VLAN trunks, and dynamic VLAN assignment from a VLAN Membership Policy Server (VMPS).
Extended-Range VLAN Configuration Guidelines. VTP 3 only supports extended-range VLANs. Extended-range VLANs are VLANs with IDs from 1006 to 4094. Follow these guidelines when creating extended-range VLANs: VLAN IDs in the extended range are not saved in the VLAN database and are not recognized by VTP unless the switch is running VTP version 3.
You can configure extended-range VLANs only in global configuration mode. Supervisor engine redundancy does not support nondefault VLAN data file names or locations. Do not enter the vtp file file_name command on a switch that has a redundant supervisor engine.
