it's likely that you're playing 'converts' or maps originally made for standard that were algorithmically converted to mania. Those generally aren't great. To filter them out, search "mode=m" (and optionally "keys=4") to search for maps made for mania.
Downloads. In each archive is a folder that you will have to merge with your own Songs folder (without overwriting), and then you will have to refresh your osu maps with F5. If I did it correctly, the archives should be password protected and you can get the password by sending !pack to Adri in-game. If not, dont bother.
