Cecropia peltata is a fast-growing tree in the genus Cecropia. Common names include trumpet tree, trumpet-bush, bacano, bois canon and snakewood. [2] It is listed as one of the world's 100 worst invasive alien species.
Each flower will develop an average of four fruits which will contain up to 800 tiny, single-seeded fruits. These fruits, called achenes (like the seeds on the outside of a strawberry), form cylindrical fruit clusters 4-6 in. (10-15 cm) long. When on the tree, Cecropia fruits look like greenish-yellow fingers reaching up to the sky (Fig. 23).
21 cze 2012 · This is the fruit of the female Cecropia peltata--- absolutely syrrupy delicious in dry weather, quickly fermented in wet. The seeds are no good, unless someone has been fool enough to introduce a male tree, in which case we will soon have a new exotic pest plant on our hands.
