Guide to understanding cat food and reading food labels: Cats are obligate carnivores, so they need high amount of protein and fat with very few carbohydrates. The sources of these nutrients should be primarily (over 80%) animal. If possible, you should have the diet as 50% (or more) wet food.

21 sty 2014 · The Guaranteed Analysis lists each nutrient as a percentage of the total weight in the food, as fed. That is to say, the percentages include the weight of water in the food.
21 kwi 2020 · Three nutrients on the Guaranteed Analysis are listed as “crude”: crude protein, crude fat, and crude fiber. It doesn’t mean “crude” as in low quality. It just indicates how the measurements are calculated. Take protein, for instance. It’s not measured directly in pet food.
