This dissertation is about the CAP 30 Pension Scheme in Ghana. The objective is to discuss the main problems and attempt to identify some of its weaknesses and to make suggestions to overcome these weaknesses.
Formal pension systems are an important means of reducing poverty among the aged. In recent years, however, pension reform has become a pressing matter, as demographic aging, poor administration, early retirement, and unaffordable benefits have strained pension balances and overall public finances.

CAP 30 provides old age benefits, disability benefits and dependent lump sum. The SSNIT pension scheme is a social insurance program providing social protection against socially recognized conditions, including poverty, old age, disability, unemployment among others.
