Canterbury Shaker Village is a historic site and museum in Canterbury, New Hampshire, United States. It was one of a number of Shaker communities founded in the 19th century. It is one of the most intact and authentic surviving Shaker community sites, and was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1993. [2][4][5]
Canterbury Shaker Village is dedicated to preserving the 200-year legacy of the Canterbury Shakers and to providing a place for learning, reflection, and renewal of the human spirit. Canterbury Shaker Village offers tours, exhibits, special events, and more. Duration: 2-3 hours.
With a distinctive campus of 25 original and 4 reconstructed Shaker buildings, as well as nearly 700 acres of forests, open fields bordered by stone walls, well-tended gardens and picturesque mill ponds, Canterbury Shaker Village is a must-see for anyone touring the region.
The Village grounds are open from dawn to dusk, year-round and free of charge. To explore the historic buildings, visitors have a variety of guided tour options, including the popular Shaker Stories tour, or more specialized thematic tours. The Village is open from early May through October and weekends in November.
A traditional Shaker community from 1792, Canterbury Shaker Village maintains the Shaker heritage as a living-history museum. Interpreters demonstrate the Shakers' daily lives, artisans create Shaker crafts and walking trails invite pond-side strolls.
