OC, baton, and taser are all considered unarmed. HOWEVER you will need to be certified to carry and use them. This is for liability reasons because if you use them you might get sued and if not certified you'll lose. Also CA is very strict about what you can carry. You need your guard card and a baton card to buy and carry a baton.
A concealed handgun license is NOT valid while on duty as Unarmed Security, meaning it is a FELONY CHARGE if caught. Batons, mace, etc. are fine, but carrying a firearm (even licensed for concealed carry) when working as Unarmed Security will cost no less than a full year in prison.
Unarmed security guards have an important job to do, keeping people and property safe. In some cases, they may need to use force to protect themselves or those they are assigned to protect. This can be a difficult situation, as they are not armed with lethal weapons.
Nonetheless, unarmed guards can still carry nonlethal weapons (e.g. batons, pepper sprays, and tasers) intended for self-defense and safe handling of security incidents. The use of weapons should depend on the severity of the threat and the safety of the people in the vicinity.
As far as I am aware, the Comminwealth only permits armed guards to carry batons, Tasers, and firarms with additional certifications. (Side arm, shotgun, and patrol rifle are all seperste certifications).

However, security guards are permitted to carry and use handcuffs to detain anyone who has committed a crime before the police arrive on the scene.
29 lip 2021 · TASERs and other stun guns should only be used when absolutely necessary and by those trained to do so. However, if the proper criteria is met, they can make an excellent tool for security guards when it comes to protecting yourself and others with minimal adverse effects.
