1 lut 2024 · Calcaneal tuberosity avulsion fracture, an extra-articular injury, is a rare fracture caused internally by Achilles tendon driven following intense contraction of gastrocnemius-soleus complex, and externally by low-energy (possibly high-energy).
We presented a new technique for the treatment of avulsion fractures of the calcaneal tuberosity, which is fixed with a 180-degree microplate. We aim to provide a simple, safe, and strong internal fixation technique for avulsion fractures of the calcaneal tuberosity as one of the treatment options.
23 paź 2015 · In this article, we will show the characteristic appearance and location of these fractures, discuss the mechanisms responsible for these injuries, and illustrate potential pitfalls to consider. The calcaneus is a relatively long tarsal bone that has the shape of a pistol grip (Fig. 1).
Conservative treatment of calcaneal tuberosity avulsion fractures leads to potential complications that include skin necrosis of the heel, Haglund’s deformity, and reduction in plantarflexion power.
3 mar 2020 · Fractures of the posterior tuberosity of the calcaneus represent a unique variant of hindfoot injury. In the absence of urgent treatment, displacement of the tuberosity may result in posterior soft tissue compromise, ultimately resulting in full-thickness soft tissue necrosis.
1 mar 2022 · We aim to review and characterize the clinical presentations, prevalence of soft tissue compromise, outcomes of operatively treated calcaneal tuberosity avulsion fractures and the types of fixation constructs used with its associated complications.
Surgical management of calcaneal tuberosity fractures requires reduction and stable fixation of the displaced fragment. When the patient has preexisting tightness of the gastrocnemius-soleus complex, successful management must also address this pathology to improve outcome.
