In this DROPS video we show how to do a knitted cast on (aka cable method). This is a great way to cast on when you want a firm nice edge. Also a nice method when casting on new sts at the end of a row.
To work the cable cast on for a buttonhole, you would work to the last stitch before the bind off, then work the instructions given above, starting by inserting your needle into the middle of the last two stitches on the left hand needle.
Corrina uses a traditional bind off to eliminate the stitches for the buttonhole, and then uses a cable cast on when adding the stitches back onto the needle. She chooses this cast on because it’s sturdy and won’t stretch out too much when putting a button through the opening.
