9 lut 2015 · I looked hard on getting one of the starter kits from BYO Guitars. I thought it would be a great way to start. I also looked into the Chinese kits, but they were so inconsistent BYO seemed to be where to go. I know the BYO kits are Chinese, but they do better with quality control then the slandered Chinese kits. This guy did a review on the LP kit.
Kits are great if you like building stuff, and want to customize every last component, or do some non-standard finish. u/jfcarr is spot on about the Chinese kits. The only thing worth using, imo, is the neck and body. Everything else should just go straight to the trash.
BYOGuitar has slightly better options at the low end than GFS (BYOguitar offers a TUSQ nut upgrade for cheap, which is a great deal and you should absolutely get a TUSQ nut upgrade with any kit you buy from them), and their higher end kits are definitely better, much closer in quality to Precision Guitar Kits (which sells the best kits around).
