The renewed, historic bridge – the sidewalks on both sides and the underpasses – finally reopen to everyone on Friday, August 04, 2023., after two years of renovation. The Municipality of Budapest and the Budapest Transport Centre celebrate the occasion with a picnic on the bridge. Programs start at 18.00/6pm and welcome everyone till midnight:

15 cze 2021 · Budapest's landmark Chain Bridge will be fully closed for traffic from 4 a.m. on Wednesday for renovation works scheduled for 18 months, according to a report by state news wire MTI. Public transport services using the bridge will be rerouted.
The bridge reconstruction will be complete long after your July visit. I believe the official date for pedestrians is 2023, while car traffic target is 2022 December. We shall see. 12 sty 2023 · The Chain Bridge is currently still closed to pedestrians, as the sidewalks are still under construction, but these are expected to be finalised by autumn 2023 when pedestrians can return.
21 cze 2023 · The renovation of the most iconic monument of Budapest, the Chain Bridge, is approaching the finish line (works are to end this autumn). Since December, cyclists, taxis and buses started using the bridge – a set-up we welcomed warmly, along with fellow citizens.
