The North Carolina Railroad Company (NCRR) owns and manages the 317-mile rail corridor that stretches from Charlotte to the Port Terminal in Morehead City and runs east-west through the heart of the City of Durham. This is a primary route for both passenger and freight service.

Just 30 miles from Las Vegas, near Boulder City, the gravel Historic Railroad Trail hugs the hills on the southern shoreline of vast Lake Mead. The 4.1-mile rail trail offers panoramic views of the manmade lake and snakes through five railroad tunnels on its way toward Hoover Dam.
Durham’s Transportation Department has prepared two useful bike and hike maps in PDF format which show all trails, greenways and parks within the county. These maps complement our ATT maps for those planning longer cycling rides that involve both trails and public roads.
DPR multi-use trails are free and accessible to the community and provide excellent opportunities for residents to recreate and exercise. The route crosses through the City of Durham; Durham, Chatham, and Wake counties; the planning jurisdictions of the Towns of Cary and Apex; and passes through the Jordan Lake project lands of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
