Folks would literally drive to hang out at the bookstore! You went to have coffee, listen to CDs, read through the new items, there were even live concerts at some of them. My wife and I used to have lunch at one, and be entertained for hours.
I really missed Borders when it shut. It was a great place to hang out late if you didn’t drink as a teen. Coffee shop open till ten, biggest section of art books in the city, weird niche magazines on the stands and just a pretty chill atmosphere all round.
