Call My Bluff is an excellent ESL classroom game for these reasons: It encourages vocabulary expansion. It directs the students to consider etymology and the way in which English is a composite from a variety of background languages. It requires analysis of words and a comparison with what the students already know.
I explain the word in three ways, giving the correct meaning and two false ones, for example 'very smelly' (another adjective) or 'a tool for making potato rings' (a noun). The students try to guess the right meaning.
15 minutes. Introduction. In this fun defining vocabulary game, students give definitions for words and try to bluf their ability to give definitions in order to score more points. Procedure. Divide the students into two teams. Give one team a word to define. All the students in the team who know the definition stand up.

The beauty of this game, from an English teaching perspective, is that it helps students to pay close attention to unknown words, noticing affixes and also the root of the word.
