In March of 2021, Chief Simington transferred to the Division of the Academy and Training. He retired from the Illinois State Police in September of 2021 to become the Police Chief of the Bloomington Police Department.

There is a unified chain of command, with delegation of authority. Current authorized strength is 128 sworn police officers: one chief of police, three assistant chiefs of police (operations, administration, and professional standards), six lieutenants, 16 sergeants, and 102 patrol officers.
