I have no issues at all with my blink system and the app while not paying the subscription. It's fairly fast and works well, it's possible that it's because of my fast connection and that numerous amazon AWS data centers are very close to me.

We get 80’s to 90’s in the Summer and as low as -29 in the Winter with these cams and the Lithium Ultra batteries. No complaints! If I ever did lose my free Cloud Service, I think I’d still be willing to pay for a yearly sub.
I do have an Android emulator (BlueStacks) and the Blink app installed on my PC, so I can use the app and watch live videos on my PC if I wanted to, the same way it is used on the phone. I use it without subscription. Here are a couple of links that explain subscription vs. no subscription:
