It’s important to check your skin regularly and ask your doctor about any of the following signs of skin cancer: A new, expanding, or changing growth, spot, or bump on the skin. A sore that bleeds and/or doesn’t heal after several weeks. A rough or scaly red patch, which might crust or bleed. A wart-like growth.
Check yourself head to toe: Look for new or changing lesions that grow, bleed or do not heal. Learn how to check your skin. See your dermatologist annually for a professional skin exam. Self-exams do not take the place of a specialist who is skilled at identifying and treating abnormal skin growths.
Any change in size, shape, color or elevation of a spot on your skin, or any new symptom in it, such as bleeding, itching or crusting, may be a warning sign of melanoma.
