SUBMISSIONS OPEN. Books authored by residents of California and published during the 2024 calendar year may be submitted between August 15 and November 15 for consideration for the California Book Awards. Please use the following submission form: 2024 Submissions.
Each year the jury carefully considers hundreds of submissions from authors around the state, who have written on a wide variety of subjects. The wealth of submissions reflects the ever increasing talent of California writers and the literary richness of the Golden State.
Since 1931, the California Book Awards has honored the best of California literature. Every year, a jury reads hundreds of books to find the very best; every spring, they choose a small group of finalists for the award. Winners are announced each May.
You are cordially invited to submit an entry in the 81st Annual California Book Awards presented by The Commonwealth Club of California. Awards are given to books exhibiting exceptional literary merit.
Books written by authors residing in California are eligible. Publishers may submit six copies of books published in 2024 by November 15. There is no entry fee.
