5 sty 2015 · We’ll start with a brief summary of Beowulf before proceeding to some textual analysis and critical reading. Beowulf is a classic ‘overcoming the monster’ story. Most people know that the poem documents the struggle of the title character in vanquishing a monster named Grendel.
Director: Robert Zemeckis. Notable Cast: Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich, Angelina Jolie. Probably the most faithful of the poem’s screen adaptations, Zemeckis’ film nevertheless makes many changes. Beowulf has sex with Grendel’s mother, and the Dragon is their offspring.
The epic battle between Beowulf and the dragon takes place primarily in the air, with Beowulf clinging to the dragon’s hide with the help of a sword plunged deep into the skin of the beast but otherwise causing it little damage.

Beowulf is an Old English heroic epic poem of anonymous authorship. Its creation dates from between the 8th [1] and the 11th century, the only surviving manuscript dating from circa 1010. [2] At 3182 lines, it is notable for its length. It has risen to national epic status in England.
Inside, a dragon guards a treasure trove left there long ago by the last survivor of an extinct people. The thief steals a cup, but the dragon discovers the theft and burns the land, including Beowulf's mead-hall. Beowulf, knowing his death is near, decides to fight the dragon.
