Brain lateralization refers to the division of cognitive functions and specialization of brain regions into two hemispheres – the left and right hemispheres of the brain. Each hemisphere of the brain has distinct anatomical structures and is associated with different cognitive functions.
14 wrz 2023 · Lateralization of brain function is the view that distinct brain regions perform certain functions. For instance, it is believed that different brain areas are responsible for controlling language, formulating memories, and making movements.
Brain asymmetries are key components of sensory, cognitive, and motor systems of humans and other animals. This review tracks their development from embryological asymmetries of genetic expression patterns up to left-right differences of neural networks in adults. These insights are crucial to understand pathologies of the lateralized human brain.
10 kwi 2017 · Lateralisation is the idea that the two halves of the brain are functionally different and that each hemisphere has functional specialisations, e.g. the left is dominant for language, and the right excels at visual motor tasks.
