The Battle of Kontum. Overview. At the end of January, 1968 the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Army (NVA) launched an ambitious offensive operation throughout the entire country of South Vietnam. Every major city and every Provincial Capital was attacked in what came to be called the Tet Offensive.
