What they look like: The Bald Eagle is a very large raptor with a dark brown body and wings and a white head and tail. Its legs and feet are bright yellow, as is its large, hooked bill. Its eyes are light yellow. Immature eagles are mostly brown from head to tail with mottled brown and white feathers on the chest.
Bald eagles belong to the sea eagle group. This type of eagle uses its claws to snatch fish out of water. Besides fish, bald eagles hunt other birds, small mammals, snakes, turtles, and crabs. They also eat dead animals. Bald eagles build nests in tall trees or on high rocks. Nests can be more than 5 feet (1.5 meters) wide.
