Get some pet bowls from the Pet Groomer villager (ideally one for food and one for water). Fill one with kibble (using a kibble packet) and one with water (using a water bucket), and then from there, your pets will automatically eat and drink when they are hungry.
The Owls can be found in forests and often on top of trees. They kill nearby spiders and can be bred using spider eyes. They also lay owl eggs which can be thrown just like chicken eggs to hatch baby owls. Since EnderZoo is Public Domain so is this mod.

Tameable Big Cats: Tiger, Lion, Jaguar, Cougars, and Lynx. Tameable with meat and act like wolves (not ocelots). Elephants. Snakes.
I'm pretty certain it pre-dates 1.12. I can't think of a good way to disable friendly fire on pets with only vanilla commands. There is a team setting to disable friendly fire, but for some reason it only prevents players from hurting other players. Pets and other non-player entities still get hurt.
