There's a sameness of mood, tempo, stripped-down arrangements, etc. that binds the songs into a brilliant picture of a time and place. It's their best work and one of the best albums ever. The song, "The Suburbs" sits in a similar spot on my "best songs ever" list - a freaking masterpiece.
