Gen 1 is the easiest method to get you compliant and also the most economical. Gen 3 has the option for auto release but also incorporates a roller wheel on the arm to aid in closing the receiver. Gen 3 and Gen 1 will not work with the Dual Function Pin or Kingpin.
I recently acquired a Daniel Defense DDM4V7 and wanted to install a magazine release solution. It came with a fixed magazine already, and I read that they use AR maglock. My question is how can I see what version maglock I have, and if I install a kingpin, would I need anything else?
Gen 2 is held and timed by the screw going through the back "finger" of the mag release. I own one. It's been fine and has never walked on me, but it was a bit tricky to time it the first time.

You need to either pull the rear and front takedown pins to allow the maglock enough clearance to disengage and allow mag release, or you need to undo the bottom plate of the magazine to relieve pressure and allow the bolt to go forward.
