25 paź 2024 · Acute appendicitis is an acute inflammation of the vermiform appendix. It is a very common condition in general radiology practice and is one of the main reasons for abdominal surgery in young patients. CT is the most sensitive modality to detect appendicitis.

Dilated appendix with a maximum diameter of 12 mm showing a fluid-filled lumen and thick enhanced walls. Minimal reactionary pelvic free fluid.
Familiarity with CT findings is important for the correct diagnosis of acute appendicitis, differentiation of appendicitis from other entities, and identification of complications. CT does have important disadvantages, however.
