I always enjoyed Cho'Gath and particularly AP Cho'Gath, but with new items and runes tank Cho'Gath also became good top while AP is nice mid. I see my guide as the best out there as I have my own take on the items, I'm currently the only new updated guide with rod of ages as I like to have something unique but still good in my guides.
All Cho'Gath abilities (except R) are AOE and that makes Cho one of the best teamfighters: slow, stun, slow, eat. Cho'Gath is good at teamfights but also good at duels thanks to its ult, but it suffers a lot to some top laners. When the R is gone a lot of 1v1 potential is lost.

My best success with cho is a sort of AP tank hybrid. Your mythic is Everfrost and your core items after that besides boots are Warmogs and Demonic Embrace. Rune wise it's Hail of Blades and whatever else you want really. For the 2nd tree I run condition and overgrowth.
Ap Cho can deal 900+ damage with Q and still have over 5k hp. I've gotten to 1300 true dage on the ult. Ap cans till be beefy, you just need the stacks and items. I follow Balori's build: Luden's, Void Staff, Demonic embrace, cosmic overdrive, and sorc shoes.
