31 mar 2021 · For patients with an acute or postacute lateral ankle sprain, strong to moderate evidence supports (1) protection and optimal loading, (2) manual therapy, (3) therapeutic exercises directed at identified impairments, and (4) occupational and sports-related training.
This protocol is intended to guide clinicians through non-operative management of lateral ankle sprain. This protocol is time based (dependent on tissue healing) as well as criterion based.
AbsTrACT. This guideline aimed to advance current understandings regarding the diagnosis, prevention and therapeutic interventions for ankle sprains by updating the existing guideline and incorporate new research.
The guideline is meant for all care providers who are involved in the treatment and guidance of patients with ankle injuries: family physicians, physical therapists, orthopaedic surgeons, trauma surgeons, rehabilitation physicians, radiologists, occupational physicians, sports physicians and professionals involved in sport massage.
