16 gru 2013 · The advantage of 12 volt is faster cranking, brighter lights and readily available parts such as batteries, bulbs, battery cables, and coils. The stock model A generator will charge 6, 8, or 12 volts without any modification but will put out less amps unless the armature is changed.
11 cze 2017 · The 6 volt Model A coil should be about 1 1/2 ohms, so put the meter on the R x 1 scale, and hope your meter is good enough to read low ohms accurately. I prefer to check them on the battery charger. I use my 6 amp charger set to 6 volts, and look for about a 4 amp draw on the meter.
Model A Ford Garage Straight Pole Ignition Coil Variations. Shown below are several varieties of the so-called straight pole ignition coils used from 1929-1931. Shown above are a pair of 'Circle A' logo coils, one with Ford script and one without. The 'Circle A' logo was a mark of the American Bosch Corporation, a primary supplier to Ford.
29 paź 2005 · On the Model A Ford ignition coil, I am told that a replacement coil has the terminals labeled + and -. The supplier states that when installing the replacement coil on a Model A, the coil should be mounted (and wired) so that the Positive terminal is on the passenger side.
Here is a coil and condenser tester I made for about $9. The 6 volt relay is 35 ohms and the capacitor connected to the relay windings is 330 microfarads. This combination makes the relay vibrate at a rate to give the coil the same frequency as a Model A running at 1,000 RPM.
A good coil and condenser will produce a spark that easily jumps this gap. If not, replace condenser first, then try the coil. If this test is OK and there is still no spark when cranking the engine, check that the points are opening and closing and then check timing.
