Amtrak’s facility has three simulators, each complete with a replica dashboard, literal bells and whistles, all of the standard throttle and break levers one finds in a locomotive cab, and a wall-mounted video monitor that runs simulations based on the actual specfications of the Northeast Corridor.

Apply, better off if you start as a conductor, and then apply to be an engineer. Amtrak typically pick the conductors to be engineers considering you know just about everything the engineer know ( cab signals) bedsides drive the train. Become a conductor at a Class 1 RR or direct hire at Amtrak.
