I've been a member since 1984. I was racing local and wanted to do AMA events. It is required to have membership or waiver to race AMA sanctioned events. It's a good organization to join as there is really no downside. Occasionally I'll find a discount or free admission to some events.
Racers now have a choice of one of five memberships: AMA Competition Plus, AMA Competition, AMA Family, AMA Youth or an AMA One-Event Pass. AMA Competition Plus ($49): This membership is for the racer who wants it all - AMA Roadside Assistance and all AMA member benefits.
