  6. Companies can get reviews taken down from Trustpilot for being "fake". Shady companies will offer some token fix to your problem, then say "Now take down the review" and follow up with reporting you as a fake reviewer.

  7. I rarely order off Instagram ads but I always check scamadviser.com and trustpilot reviews before purchasing and it's saved me right in the nick of time quite often. You might also find Better Business Bureau complaints, and you could try reverse-image-searching their ad material or using Google Lens to identify products.
