The most common negative construction in French is ne…pas, which forms a “sandwich” around the verb in the present tense and means the verb does NOT happen. For example, in the present tense you might say:
Je ne vois pas, je n’entends pas, je ne sais pas. For French, the emphasizing word is necessary. Now, sometimes you omit the “pas” when there’s a second negation, just like you would in English.
Using pas alone to negate a verb is not grammatically correct (but very often used in casual conversations). You can say "Je ne vais y aller", this is correct and even quite "very formal". Do you have an example where you would like to use ne alone without verb?
