15 kwi 2023 · Acute otitis media is defined as an infection of the middle ear space. It is a spectrum of diseases that includes acute otitis media (AOM), chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM), and otitis media with effusion (OME).
Acute suppurative otitis media: This infection is caused by pyogenic bacteria, most often S. pneumoniae. Pus accumulates in the middle ear, causing bulging and perforation of the tympanic membrane. Incompletely healed suppurative otitis media may transform into a chronic serous otitis media.

1 mar 2013 · Key Action Statement 1A: Clinicians should diagnose acute otitis media (AOM) in children who present with moderate to severe bulging of the tympanic membrane (TM) or new onset of otorrhea not due to acute otitis externa. Evidence Quality: Grade B. Strength: Recommendation.
Acute otitis media (AOM) is purulent or suppurative otitis media. As its name indicates, AOM is characterized by fluid in the middle ear region. This infection of the middle ear cavity is associated with signs and symptoms of rapidly emerging acute inflammation.
Ear infections (acute otitis media) occur when a virus or bacteria infects the space behind your child’s eardrum. Symptoms include ear pain that may cause your infant or toddler to be especially fussy or irritable. Often, ear infections clear on their own. Sometimes, children need antibiotics, pain-relieving medications or ear tubes.
