Again, it somewhat depends. A brute can take a punch from a Spartan if they get hit right. But a brute can also be one shot by a Spartan if they get hit wrong. That being said, Spartans by and large are able to quickly dispose of rank and file brutes (Atriox being one major outlier).
If you hit the weak spots unintentionally then I'd say yea. Brutes aren't super hard. Stasis and walk behind them. Shoot their weak spots and they go down fast. It's getting behind them that's tricky since the game tends to put you in situations where that's not easy.
Early book brutes could shrug off mags of bullets being dumped into them and being shot in the face without dying even without armor. Well they couldn't really survive being shot in the face. The closest we get to that is in Ghosts of Onyx and even then, the brute survives for all of two seconds and is still totally incapacitated
