19 mar 2024 · Fetal stage. The fetal stage of development begins around the ninth week and lasts until birth. This is when the embryo officially turns into a fetus. The fetus gets its assigned sex around nine weeks of pregnancy, although your healthcare provider can’t detect it on ultrasound yet.

At 8 weeks of pregnancy (6 weeks after fertilization), development of most major organ systems has begun in the embryo. The placenta has also developed and formed tiny finger-like projections (villi) that extend into the wall of the uterus. The villi are part of the circulatory system of the embryo.
8 weeks pregnant: fetal development. Your baby is about the size of a kidney bean. You won't feel it yet, but their body is like a tiny jumping bean too, moving in fits and starts. Your baby's head is larger than the trunk of their body, and is bent over onto the chest.
