I bought a 4080 today and only have 2 PCIE 8 pin cables currently (neither with daisy chain). I can confirm the PC does not work with only 2 cables, so either all 3 are needed or I have a dead card.

Each 8-pin gives you 150W, so 4x 8-pin adapters = 600W total power available to the GPU, 3x 8-pin = 450W total, etc. If you get a 4090 with a max power limit all the way to 600W, you will need the 4x 8-pin adapter version to get the full 600W power limit.
15 sie 2020 · The 8 pin connector can carry up to 150W of power from the source to the sink (read: source is PSU, and the sink is the graphics card). In the same way the 6 pin connector is designed to safely carry the current for up to 75Watt. Thus you can safely split on 8 pins connector as follows.

If the GPU requires more than 150 watts, it will come with an 8-pin connector or two 6-pin connectors. As always, there are exceptions.
