Each 8-pin gives you 150W, so 4x 8-pin adapters = 600W total power available to the GPU, 3x 8-pin = 450W total, etc. If you get a 4090 with a max power limit all the way to 600W, you will need the 4x 8-pin adapter version to get the full 600W power limit.
