23 lut 2023 · In terms of self-defense, we’ve got a tricky call to make. On the one hand, the 5.56×45 has less recoil and is more controlled for rapid follow-up shots. On the other, 7.62 is a bigger number than 5.56. Bigger bullet = bigger holes, that’s just simple math.
A 7.62x39 will typically fire a 123 grain bullet while the 5.56 NATO cartridge will typically fire a 55 or 62 grain bullet (although heavier bullets can also be used). Assuming a 7-pound rifle, the 7.62 will have approximately 8.5 ft-lbs of felt recoil compared to 5 ft-lbs of felt recoil for the 5.56 NATO round.
7 gru 2020 · Let’s be real, 7.62 and 5.56 NATO are excellent fighting cartridges with long, battle-proven histories. 5.56 may be better suited for home defense and 7.62 rules long-range matches and big-game hunting, but both cartridges perform well in their respective roles.

Both the 5.56 and 7.62 rounds hold on to a similar trajectory out to a distance of 180 yards. From the 180 yards mark, we see some differences between those 2 rounds. The lighter 5.56x45 cartridge can hold on to a flatter trajectory compared to the 7.62x39 round.
