This is a finishing chamber reamer with an interchangeable pilot. Unless noted, it is designed to cut a SAMMI minimium specification chamber. Alternate pilots are available, which allow you to more accurately fit the bore of your barrel.

Reamers are available as Finish Reamers with a Removable (Live) Pilot. Reamers come with serrations on every other flute to help break up chips and alleviate chatter. They also come with oil grooves that allow for a better flow of cutting fluid and flushing of chips.
9 wrz 2005 · I tried neck reaming them but the problem persists. The center of the case won't size down enough. This might work in the "new" 40-70 SS chambers. Buffalo Arms warned me this would happen. The solution was to use their "original" 40-70 SS brass and RCBS .403 dia dies--no more problem.
25 sty 2009 · Dependent on the reamer used, you may have some issues with brass. In the recent past the 40-70SS chamber was done to some different dimensions depending on who built the rifle. If you look at the Buffalo Arms catalog you will see brass available for different rifle mahufacturers.
Latest addition to the BPCR inventory is an original Winchester 1885 thick-walled Highwall in .40-70 Sharps Straight. Octagonal barrel is a Green Mountain installed and trimmed to 30" and then chambered to .40-70SS by Richard McKinney of Schuetzen Rifle Company in Colorado.
