I recommend at least an 09 or newer for the 328i. BMW improved several issues during the LCI years, like the HVA ticking issue. The automatics for the 328i E9x generation uses a GM transmission (I think some markets in Europe had the ZF variant, not 100% sure), and they’re also pretty reliable with proper maintenance.
