6 sie 2024 · This week we are studying 1 John 3:1-10. This pairs one of the more hopeful texts in the canon (1 John 3:1-3) with one of the more perplexing and possibly troubling ones (1 John 3:4-10). So we’ll have our work cut out for us. Here are a few notes on this text to get us started:
What does 1 John chapter 3 mean? Chapter 3 further discusses the importance of being a child of God and living accordingly (3:1–10). A major implication of being a child of God is that we are to love one another (3:11–24). First John 3:1–10 can be further subdivided into two main sections.
1 John 3, in the Berean Standard Bible, unfolds the profound depth of God's love for His children and the distinctive attributes that set them apart from the world. It urges believers to live in righteousness, demonstrating their love for one another as a reflection of their divine heritage.
17 sie 2020 · There are two really big ideas in play here. Number one is the idea of becoming like Jesus when he appears (v. 2). Number two is the idea of becoming like Jesus now by “purifying [ourselves], just as he is pure” (v. 3).
Whoever abides in Him does not sin: Since sin is lawlessness, a disregard for God (1 John 3:4), and since Jesus came to take away our sins (1 John 3:5), and since in Jesus there is no sin (1 John 3:5), then to abide in Him means to not sin.
